This is a fast-moving and, at times, disjointed book. There are, by my count, two protagonists who spend almost no time working together, quite a few villainous characters and lots of plot complications. but it does all come together by the end. Or almost all of it comes together. There is one plot complication left hanging but that wasn't too bothersome.The one disappointment I had with the book was with the dialog. it is certainly serviceable but the dialog in the first Kurland book I read, his part of the trilogy that starts with _The Butterfly Kid_ had some really snappy conversations among the three main characters and their friends. The three main characters were the authors of the three books of the trilogy and I guess no one in this book is quite that real and interesting, although they come close.
